ABOUT RāBONES

RāBONES – AKA Raymond Ranney
A nickname first given by his Father as a young child, the nickname stuck and became the fountain of inspiration all throughout RāBones life.

RāBONES was initially inspired to do music by the Television show “The Monkees”. Mickey Dolenz impressed RāBONES to learn the drums! Later, but still a youth, he was blown away by the jazz/rock drum styles of Steve Smith of Journey and Neil Peart of Rush. Growing up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, another strong music influence was the mastery of Prince. While still young, RāBONES knew he wanted to one day start a band. His first exposure to the thrill of performing happened in High School with his buddies Danny Bullard, Chuck Watkins and Mike Cibula. They formed the group “Prisoner” with RāBONES actually on lead vocals!

After the school days, RāBONES and his younger brother Ryan Ranney (guitarist), met Johnny D’Shea, an incredible bassist, and formed a Hard Rock Hairband they named “Hard Teaser”. Years of practice and learning songs then prepared RāBONES for the big leagues in Los Angeles, California. All three moved to LA to start a new band with a singer named Michael Vorce they had known from Minneapolis. After a setback with a dislocated shoulder, and John, the bassist returning to Minneapolis, the new band reformed with RāBONES on the Bass, and a second guitarist, Zenon Obuchowski, and a new drummer, Joe Paragona, were later added. Thus another Heavy Metal band was created and was named “Singapore Sling”.

After many more years of practice, writing original music, and recording in studio with powerhouse producers such as Ron Keel, it soon became apparent that the music industry and scene had evolved beyond the offerings of Singapore Sling. The band ended, and both RāBONES and Ryan returned to Minneapolis.

Life took shape and years went by. RāBONES never stopped dreaming of writing music and coming up with new and various ways to express a lifetime of creativity through music. Picking up now the guitar also and keyboards, along with singing and drumming, RāBONES continued to hone his skill as a musician and song writer. In the meantime, there were successful and fun side projects such as “Rock N Roll All Nite” the KISS tribute band, and “Def Repplica” the Def Leppard tribute band along with the continuing cover-song project known as “The Incredible Mr. Furley” with Sean Hopkins and Ryan Ranney. Even so, The big dream never died to one day put out an Album of personal original songs written, recorded and cherished as the creme of the crop by RāBONES.

And now the time has come. February 22, 2020, RāBONES will release his very first album of 9 deeply important tracks of music offered to us as insight into the heart and soul of a lifelong musician. The Album “1988” highlights triumphs, tragedies, good times and bad, heartfelt emotion and the liberation of youth with every soulful and meaningful track. Songs such as “Almost Free”, “Johnny Angels Fall”, and “Water Walker” express personal experiences deep in the heart of this important and relevant musician – RāBONES.
